There are so many opportunities to screw up pumpkin pie. But done right, it can win friends and influence people.

Can 'Slow Fish' Help Save America's Small-Scale Fishermen?

Rock shrimp from Florida used to be considered too hard-shelled to be worthwhile as commercial seafood. A custom-made machine to crack and split them has made the sweet crustaceans a favorite for Orlando chef Jassica Tantalo, who prepared them as part of Slow Fish 2016 in New Orleans.

You can’t find a more intimate relationship between humans, food, and nature than fishing, says Michele Mesmain, international coordinator of Slow Fish, a seafood spinoff of the Italy-based Slow Food movement. Think of all the thousands of boats at sea, catching wild creatures to haul back to shore and eat. “It’s our last source of wid…

A Vegan No-Bake Lemon Pie

Source: http://www.sonima.com/food/no-bake-lemon-pie/

In honor of Pi Day (that’s March 14 or 3.14159 for math nerds), we present this delicious twist on lemon cream pie created by Kim Capella at The Coconut Diaries. In addition to being gluten-free and vegan, this recipe is also super approachable for those new to cooking because it doesn’t involve any baking.

The crumbly, cookie-esque crust is made by combining dates, oats, shredded coconut, and water in a food processor or blender, and the lemon mixture is briefly heated on a stovetop before being poured into the crust and chilled in the refrigerator. The non-dairy coconut milk whipped cream topping adds a light and airy finishing touch. Enjoy!

Weekend Adventures

Source: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/03/14/weekend-adventures-22/

Hey friends! What a fun weekend – as you know, on Saturday morning I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Half Marathon for the 5th time! We had perfect running weather – cloudy and cool – and my legs felt fresh and speedy. You already know how I did via Instagram, but I’ll share a full recap of the race tomorrow! :)

But first – my non-race weekend adventures! On Friday night, Matt and I stayed in and made a Blue Apron – when we got last week’s delivery I thought this particular recipe would be perfect for the night before the race, so we saved it for Friday: Adobo Style Chicken with Roasted Bok Choy and Jasmine Rice.

We’re Super Disappointed This "Racy" Ad Was Banned From TV

Source: http://greatist.com/live/lane-bryant-ad-banned-from-tv-for-being-too-racy?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

We love Lane Bryant’s #ThisBody campaign, which shows curvy women strutting their stuff and celebrating their bodies with empowering mantras like this body is made for breaking the mold. But the ad won’t run on two major networks (NBC and ABC). When asked about its decision not to air the ad, NBC said the rough cut didn’t comply with indecency guidelines.

After watching the 30-second spot, we couldn’t help but think of similar lingerie ads (see below) that showed the same amount of skin, sultry voiceovers, and black and white photography—albeit with slimmer models. This double standard isn’t new. Lane Bryant faced a similar issue with ABC and Fox Family in 2010.

How Ben Stark Lost Over 200 Lbs While Playing Life on Hard

Source: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2016/03/14/how-ben-stark-lost-over-200-lbs-while-playing-life-on-hard/

Meet Ben Stark – a dude with one of the coolest names in the history of nerds, and our next member of the Nerd Fitness Hall of Heroes. He’s a 40-year-old social worker and mental health program coordinator for the VA.

Ben’s story is one of my favorites for a very specific reason: it’s real. Ben is not much different than Deadpool – finding inspiration and a path forward when you get dealt a bad hand. Although it’s often not our fault for where we are, it’s our responsibility to dig ourselves out of it.

And that’s exactly what Ben did.

Where we are RIGHT NOW is a combination of things that are within our control and things that aren’t. And often it feels overwhelming, which leads us to inaction, anxiety, and “I’ll start when I’m ready” mentality. We give an excuse. We read articles and never take action. We collect underpants. There’s always another reason, or problem, or setback that we tell ourselves why we haven’t cracked the code yet to a healthier, happier life.

Not Ben the Rebel.

When he started his journey, he was about 420 pounds. Perhaps more importantly, he was very sick, had a great deal of pain from herniated discs, and also had facet joint arthritis his back. As if this wasn’t enough, in true Deadpool fashion, in the summer of 2013, he learned he was pre-diabetic, had high cholesterol and triglycerides, gout, and sleep apn…

A Quick Workout for Busy Moms

Watch video on YouTube.

The excuse to not hit the gym is right in front of you, babbling and flinging food everywhere but his mouth. Babies are a handful and a legitimate reason why many moms—and new parents in general—skip daily exercise. But that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your health altogether. Do yourself a favor and try to squeeze in 15 minutes of fitness a day.

How will you make the time? A recent survey of 1,154 moms conducted by Woman’s Day and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national non-profit founded by the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation, found that mothers are spending 10 minutes or more a day doing something sedentary with their kids, including eating a meal, watching TV and doing homework. Those 10+ minutes are a good time to do a few simple workout moves from Pete Egoscue, Sonima.com’s pain and anatomy advisor. Get your kids to join you or do it alongside them while they eat, play, nap, or study. If you can’t spare a full 15 minutes, start with five and work your way up.

The avocado Instagram competition is fierce, especially when it comes to toast. But Food Deco’s Instagram account takes photographing the favored fruit to a whole new level.

Some images will leave you wondering if they even contain food—they’re that beautiful and intricately designed. Colette Dike is the mastermind behind the account and related site, which she hopes will inspire readers to not only cook but also decorate.

Check out a sampling of her work below, then go follow Food Deco, because, well, a) it’s just plain gorgeous and b) avocado noodles.

Avocado toast gets a makeover. So fresh and so green, green.

You can eat that?

Avocado noodles? Excuse me?

Did someone say whipped feta sauce?
