You Don’t Have to be Shaken Up to Wake Up

Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/EvjURiFnFqA/

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” ~Andy Warhol

I’m in my late thirties now, but I remember getting my first car like it was yesterday.

Even though I would have loved a shiny new car, my dad had suggested I go for a reliable junk box instead. Since I had been known to take out a few mailboxes and was somewhat of a menace on the road, I begrudgingly agreed.

Dad had a friend who worked on cars, and I proudly purchased my first clunker for $1000.

The catalyst for wanting my own set of wheels was the dreaded bus ride to my job. Day after day, I would stand at that overcrowded city bus stop in the cold, waiting for the bus to arrive like it was the second coming of Christ.

Unfortunately, when it did come, the 7,000 other commuters and I would pile in like a pack of sardines. Was that handsome guy putting the moves on me, or were we just packed in too close? I guess I’ll never know.

The only upside to the overcrowded bus was that the body heat kept us all warm.

I’d stand there, hanging on for dear life, praying that a nice old lady or a woman with a baby carriage didn’t need to board. Don’t get me wrong—I love the elderly, and babies too, but those were the kind of situation…

Or if you’re on a health kick, you now have cucumber, carrot, green salad, and stuffed pita at your disposal. While we’re most excited about all the new food options, this batch includes 72 total emojis, from facepalm to a person doing a cartwheel. The update will be released by the end of June, which has us feeling all heart-eyes emoji.

More Information is Not the Answer; More Action Is

Man thinking

“Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.” ~Bruce Lee

We live in a world where information is literally at our fingertips, twenty-four hours a day, every day. As wonderful as this can be, it can also lead to a number of challenges.

With so much information available to us it can be difficult to know which way is up.

The more we read, the more confused we become.

One source makes a logical argument for one way to do something. Then we read a completely opposing view that is backed by another logical sounding theory.

This can lead to us freezing. Like a sprinter waiting too long in the blocks for the gun to go off, we have lost the ability to react. We have lost the ability to go.

Too Many Choices Can Lead to No Choice

Too many options and choices laid out in front of us can lead to a strange problem where we struggle to make any choice at all.

What should be a positive suddenly turns to a negative. We’re worried that choosing means we miss out on something else. Or that our choice will not be the perfect choice.

Distraction Attraction

The floodgates of information can cause their own form of addictive behavior. We have become attracted to distracted. Constantly checking for updates and new information. Obs…

For A Cordial Supreme Court, Keep The Food And Wine Coming

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has become a cultural force — her face emblazoned on T-shirts and tattoos, her iconic status solidified with the hip-hop-inspired moniker Notorious RBG. But, she’s also developed a bit of a reputation for snoozing away during annual State of the Union addresses.

Ginsburg says there’s a perfectly valid reason: alcohol.

Like co-workers everywhere, the justices of the nation’s highest court enjoy bonding through food and wine. And a pre-State of the Union Address dinner, complete with wine…

7 Decluttering Tips: How to Release Your Attachment to Your Stuff

Man with stuff

“To change skins, evolve into new cycles, I feel one has to learn to discard. If one changes internally, one should not continue to live with the same objects. They reflect one’s mind and the psyche of yesterday. I throw away what has no dynamic, living use.” ~Anais Nin

I’m attempting to fit my life into ten large boxes (and one red suitcase).

As I enter a new phrase in my life I’ve decided that now is the time to reduce the stuff that has been sitting in my storage unit while I’ve been house sitting and declutter my world as much as I can. The process has been both satisfying and exhausting.

Satisfying because I’m finally able to get rid of things that I no longer need, from an ironing board to a box of fifty-plus rubber bands. (I’ve no idea when my rubber band hoarding began!)

Exhausting because every item of my belongings requires a decision. Keep or release? Sell or gift? Friends or family?

I found that while some things were easy to be rid of, there were others that I moved from pile to pile, unsure where they should rest.

I knew that I didn’t need them but felt unwilling to let go. This feeling came up the most with clothes, as it turns out I’d attached a lot of meaning to fabric and thread.

Why closing Little Stoke parkrun is a GOOD thing

Source: http://www.thefitbits.com/2016/06/why-closing-little-stoke-parkrun-is.html

Yes, you read the headline right. Cancelling Little Stoke parkrun is a GOOD thing. We all need to remember that.
I’m sure I won’t be the first person to have an opinion on this. Nor the last. Runners across the country, including former Olympians Paula Radcliffe and Dame Kelly Holmes, have been supporting the campaign to keep Little Stoke free after Stoke Gifford Parish Council voted to charge runners £1 each to use the park.
That might not seem much but it’s a matter of principle – parkrun is, and should always remain, FREE to all. It represents everything that’s great about running – community, inclusivity, health and wellbeing. We run parkrun to feel part of something. To push ourselves to achieve more. To be healthier, and happier. To bring people together, and build a better future for us and our children.
Over 8,000 parkrunners this week were first timers. Running participation has increased hugely over the past few years, with one million more people running every week than a decade ago. parkrun is helping to change the world into a healthier place.
After much discussion from both sides, this week the final decision from the Council was to revoke permission for the event –  much…

Most Common Deadlifting Mistakes

Source: http://evolutiontucson.com/most-common-deadlifting-mistakes/

By Aris Demarco

The deadlift is perhaps the best way to demonstrate pure full body strength. Like a big squat, a big deadlift is generally representative of a strong lifter overall. Also like the squat, the deadlift involves almost all the major muscle groups of the body—the entire torso, including the stomach and upper and lower back; the entire posterior chain; the legs, and the grip. As such it is a phenomenal developmental exercise especially when we take into consideration all of its variants: conventional, sumo, snatch grip, one arm or one leg, pulling from varying heights or with different bars or implements, and more interesting ways of lifting a barbell from the floor like zercher or Jefferson lifts. Finally, the first way the deadlift is taught and for many, the only way the deadlift will ever be done is in the hinge pattern—one of the more important basic movements that a human body can perform.

Despite the massive potential for variation in deadlift form, there are a few basic rules that should always be followed to make the lift both safe and mechanically efficient. And… guess what… plenty of people don’t know about them or ignore them completely. We try to instill these general guidelines as soon as possible in all of our clients; but when I venture outside the most common mistakes I see are as follows:

Starting the lift with the hips too low
Starting the lift with the bar too far away from the shins
Loss of torso integrity

Feminism 101: A Primer for the Gentlebro

Source: http://romanfitnesssystems.com/articles/feminism/

“Does feminist mean a large unpleasant person who’ll shout at you or someone who believes women are human beings? To me it’s the latter, so I sign up.” – Margaret Atwood

If you’re like my generation—those selfish little millennial pricks—you get it.

If you don’t get it, then you probably sympathize with the people who hold to their belief that a feminist reflects, as Margaret Atwood puts it, an unpleasant person who’ll shout at you. In this case, we can deduce a few things:

You spend too much time in the WRONG corners of the internet.
You misunderstand the whole “PC Culture” thing.
You work “libtard” into conversation on a regular basis.
Same with “feminazi”.

Though you’re my age and likely hate the generation of which we’re a part, you still go about your days Facebooking and Tindering and Internetting, in general.

What good is the internet if you can’t meet a lifemate or, at the very least, a suitable fuck buddy?

In order to do that — and in order to be a productive, functioning member of society — you need to know what feminism is and what feminism isn’t.

feminismWhat Feminism Actually Is

While it c…
