Talk about healthy living

2017 is a new year

I am absolutely going to achieve 3 things:

  • A healthier life – including losing weight (sound familiar this time of year?) Incredibly important. And never too late to start!
  • Master my time – to get the most out of what I am given
  • Meet my business goals – right up on the wall here to remind me

20 questions for the topics for these broadcasts. Check out the link to the personalized health assessment if you want to see all of the questions – and get your own results. See how you measure up going into 2017!

Today’s question is:

How often do you exercise each week?

  • Less than 1 hour
  • 1–2 hours
  • 2–4 hours
  • More than 4 hours

Exercise has a big impact on your overall health.

People who stay active have healthier hearts, minds, blood sugar control, better mood, and tend to live longer.

Good job making time for regular exercise! (If this is you!)

How much is enough? Experts (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) say 2-3 hours a week minimum.

You don’t have to do it all at once, 10-15 minutes at a time works just a well.

Motion = Energy

Why do we want energy?

  • We get things done
  • Improves our mood
  • Rubs off on others

Suggestions for increasing the time you spend exercising?

  • Do something fun
  • Do something with others
  • Make a commitment
  • Get consistent
  • Build healthy habits
  • Push yourself – you will feel better for it

And as always – before starting a new exercise routine – check with your doctor.

Conclusion:

I hope this made some sense for you

The simplicity of yoga…

Yoga is the essence of simplicity.

Stand tall,
Take a deep breath,
Exhale,
Close your eyes,
Inhale,
Exhale,
Bend at the waist,
Reach for your toes,
Take another deep breath,
Let the air out,
Inhale,
Stand tall.

That’s yoga. Do it–any time, any place. Keep it simple.

6 Natural Methods to Improve Antidepressant Effectiveness

Source: http://www.sonima.com/meditation/antidepressant-effectiveness/

Over the past few decades, antidepressant use has risen exponentially. A 2011 report from the National Center for Health Statistics found that between the years 1988 to 1994 and 2005 to 2008, the number of American teens and adults taking this medication has increased by almost 400 percent. Yes, you read that right—400 percent. This alarming number begs a major question: Are people more depressed than ever? A 2014 article in Psychology Today seems to think so. A few reasons they cite for the significant spike in mental health issues include a possible decline in the stigma and speculation that we are, in fact, suffering more than before due to weaker community ties (perhaps related to technology), a focus on fame and fortune, and unrealistically high expectations.

Regardless the reason why you may be on medication for depression, the good news is, there are things you can do to make sure you’re maximizing its benefits. While there’s no single cure-all for depression, using these six science-backed strategies in conjunction with your antidepressant can be a step in the right direction. Ultimately, the path to conquering depression is an incredibly individual one where trial and error under a doctor’s supervision is often the best way to determine what works for you.

1. Commit to exercise.

Working out is one of the most talked-about ways to combat depression. When you exercise, your body releases “feel good” chemicals known a…

How to Promote Yourself Authentically to Gain New Opportunities

Self Promotion

“If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.” ~Unknown

I have always been a smart, dedicated, hard working person. I was raised to believe that those where characteristics required for success. So imagine my surprise to reach the working world and find unexceptional colleagues getting promoted above me.

There’s one memory that particularly stands out.

When I was twenty-five, I was on a team that consisted of amazingly smart, ambitious, hardworking people, plus one mediocre guy, Tom. His mediocrity stood out amongst a high-achieving team, but Tom thought he was a rock star.

Infuriatingly, all the right people noticed Tom. And they didn’t notice me.

In hindsight, the biggest difference between Tom and I was our mindset around self-promotion. We were both ambitious, but he was willing to push for it. Meanwhile, I was waiting patiently for my turn.

I couldn’t get past the idea that self-promotion was sleazy, manipulative, or desperate, so I refused to do it. I didn’t go in to a meeting with sweaty palms ready to ask for the promotion that I wanted. I just did nothing.

I waited and hoped that someone would notice how hardworking and deserving I was. But it never happened. I lost o…

Strength, Endurance, and Health

Source: http://evolutiontucson.com/strength-endurance-and-health/

Recently I have made a pretty drastic switch in my training/fitness life. It has been met with questions, opposition, teasing, warnings, concern, and a few other things, so I wanted to share my current training focus and reasoning in this blog.

Over the past many years I have been competing in the sport of Powerlifting. It has been one of the best things I have ever done and has been a very fulfilling part of my life. As an athlete all of my childhood and teenage years I had seemed to lose the competitive spirit.

When I started competing in the sport of Powerlifting I could honestly say I was underpowered. I looked fit, but didn’t have the  appropriate strength for my level of training. Over the years I had a mission to pursue strength as my primary purpose. After each powerlifting meet I reassessed my goals and set newer strength goals, continually raising my standards. In a few short years I went from a guy that had a 325lb deadlift and 285b squat, to squatting 551 and deadlifting 540. These numbers to some seem enormously strong, and to others in the powerlifting world these numbers are called warm ups. To me they were called maxes and I earned every ounce of them. I left everything out on the platform when I hit these numbers. The difference was, when I hit that 551lb squat it was one of the first times I had to take a step back and say, “do I want to squat more than this”? And the answer was “I don’t know right now.” It felt awesome…

The 12 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Making a Big Decision

Source: http://greatist.com/live/decision-making-questions-to-ask-yourself?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

No Regrets With Susie Moore Moving to a new city. Asking for a promotion. Starting a side hustle. Hunting for a different job. Trying online dating. Breaking up with your S.O.

Life is packed with decisions, big and small. But some require deeper contemplation. Often, our hesitance to make up our minds when confronted with a big choice results in not taking any action whatsoever. We avoid it. We want to hide under the covers and hope our need to do something will pass.

But the harsh truth is that inaction is a decision too. If we don’t move to Austin, forge ahead for that VP title, start a side project this summer, or call off our less-than-satisfactory relationship, we are deciding to stay where we are. We are deciding to live in Chicago. We are deciding to remain in our current job. We are deciding to reject entrepreneurship (and more dough). We are deciding to stay with James or Jessica. If you feel a big decision is looming in your life, don’t hide! Ask yourself these 12 questions—and write down your answers—to get clear on what’s the right choice for you.
