Google Trends Tell a Story

Google Trends is a great tool for understanding what people are searching for online. Using the Explore feature you can find out what has interested people online for the past few years by each keyword. This gives us tremendous insight into what people have been spending time online looking for over a period of time.

Diet and Weight Loss

Check out the chart below and you can see that at the start of each year people want to know more about how to diet and lose weight as well as general nutrition. But then as the New Year’s resolutions fade the number of times people check these topics out online goes down. But even at the lowest point – during the holiday season – there is still tremendous online activity for individuals wanting to know more about getting into shape.

It is a bit of a surprise when you see where people live who are doing this online research. The chart below shows that the states with the most interest are in the South. These Americans are also reported to live the states with the highest level of adult obesity but at least they want to know more about how to remedy that situation. Alabama leads the way.

Vitamins, Supplements and Disease

Searching for vitamins and supplements is very popular online. Americans are also interested in learning more about the top preventable causes of death in this country: diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. As diabetes becomes more and more common it leads the way in the volume of search activity.

What People Want

When you ask people what they want the top answers are usually more money, additional free time, the opportunity to travel, maybe a new car, and always continued good health. Check out the chart below to show that people are searching for all of these things online. Time is at the top of the list and it continues to grow faster than the other searches. No one ever has too much free time. It may be a bit surprising that with all of the discussion of the new health care laws, online interest in health hasn’t increased over time and may actually be going down. Travel is at the bottom of the list and that may be due to the tough economic times over the past few years.

Business Opportunity

Are people doing more online research to seek out new business opportunities? It doesn’t look that way. The financial crash of a few years back seems to have slowed down American’s interest in new business ventures and home based businesses. MLM (multi-level marketing) does lead the group as people may be searching for programs that will work for them to earn money. The internet is a great place to check out the many programs and learn which ones are for real.

Google Trends can also show us what parts of the country are more interested in new business opportunities. It seems that the South and the West have the most interested Americans. And Nevada is the top state in this group.

Healthy Homes

The chart below shows that people are definitely interested in having a healthy home. They are researching natural and safe cleaning products. Many people have stories of how the health of their family – and children in particular – have improved as they have started to move away from many household chemical and started to use more natural products.

Shaklee

Of course we also wanted to see if people have been searching for Shaklee products online. The chart below shows a sharp increase just in the past few months in Google searching for Shaklee.

If this type of information interests you click on any of the links to Google Trends under each chart. You can then start learning more about what people are searching for online and it will tell you a story.

Top Quotes from the Shaklee Regional Conference in Long Beach 2014

Here are my favorite quotes from the Shaklee Regional Conference in Long Beach in 2014:

Business Opportunity

  1. Shaklee – Live in Harmony with NatureShaklee is the Number 1 Natural Nutrition Supplement Company and they started with the first bio-degradable household cleaner Basic H over 50 years ago.  Shaklee has never lost the vision of being an environmental green company and never will.
  2. We are part of the “Participation Economy”By building a Shaklee business each business leader is not sitting around waiting for the economy to provide them a living.  They are being proactive and participating in their future – not just hoping something good will happen.
  3. Vision without action achieves nothingSo many people have great ideas and great vision.  But without action rarely is anything accomplished.
  4. Attend everythingNever turn down the chance to meet people and learn new things.  Even the most successful business leaders are able to learn something new to improve their lives either professionally or personally.  Look for the gems in what people are saying.
  5. Posture tells the storyThis is one of my favorites.  You can tell more about a conversation by observing the posture of both the speaker and the listener.   If they are interested and open to the discussion you can tell even without hearing what is being said.
  6. Don’t try to change people – there are easier ways to build a businessToo many people try to change others to get them to try new things.  This is too much work.  Make it easier on yourself. Building a business is a numbers game.  It is much easier to find the right person than it is to focus all of your efforts convincing someone of something they never will accept.
  7. Don’t be more dissatisfied with people’s lives than they areWhen you know that what you have to offer – in this case Shaklee products and business opportunity you can be frustrated when you know that the listener would benefit but is not going to change.  As Pat Hintze said:  “Money? Time? Health? Cars? Travel? Which one of these is this guy not interested in getting more of?”

Buzz Words

  1. The Shaklee EffectAt Shaklee, we believe that small actions today lead to big effects tomorrow. That’s what we call The Shaklee Effect. Over time, these small actions multiply to create the foundation for financial freedom for you, healthier, longer lives to spend with the people you care about, and a cleaner, brighter future for all. Little by little, your actions can change the world.
  2. The Shaklee DifferenceOur mission at Shaklee is to provide a healthier life for everyone and a better life for anyone. We do it by making natural products that are so exceptional, you just have to tell your friends. Every product that goes into every Shaklee bottle is designed to improve health, work without compromise, and be gentle on the planet.
  3. Explode the SharingThis is the power of Shaklee Social Marketing.  When you tell one person about Shaklee, then they tell another who spreads the word it doesn’t take long to reach a wide audience.
  4. The Power of ONEThis is probably the most important thing I learned.  The Power of One.  When you are building your Shaklee business and share it with one person you never know if this is the one person that will take the ball and run with it.  What a great feeling when that happens.  And you will never know until you share it with enough people to find that ONE.
  5. The Power of ANDThe Power of AND describes the way that we can recognize our lives and actions in the past AND how that impacts our future.

Funny

  1. The further up the pole of success you find yourself, the more your butt is going to be exposedOne of the facts of life is that the more successful we become the more people are going to be closely watching what we do.  But this is a problem we all want to have, right?
  2. It is easier to give birth than it is to resurrect the deadWhen building a business you can continue to work with people that probably aren’t going anywhere but at some point you have to cut your losses and look for the next one.
  3. If you are riding a dead horse – get offJust like resurrecting the dead, if the horse you are on is no longer kicking, it is time to go find a new horse.
  4. Can’t take a duck to an eagle partyYou can take a duck to an eagle party but be ready when it opens its mouth – everyone is going to know it just doesn’t belong there.
  5. Kiss the girls who are leaning inWhy go after people to build your business with who aren’t really that interested?  Find the ones that are and it will be a whole lot easier.

I didn’t catch who said each one but if you were there you probably have a good idea. The important thing is to take these quotes and apply them to your Shaklee business.  And they would apply to just about any other entrepreneur’s quest for success as well.

Twelve things I learned at the 2014 Shaklee Regional Conference in Long Beach

  1. Shaklee can be fun. Ok, it is work but why can’t you enjoy it by working with people you want to be hanging with? And it helps having a product you can believe in.
  2. Shaklee is inclusive. There were so many different cultures, backgrounds, and languages included in the audience and speaker list. This shows that everyone can fit into Shaklee.
  3. Shaklee powers Team USA.  Jordan Malone was sponsored by Shaklee and was a Silver Medalist in Speed Skating in Sochi 2014. I got to hold the medal! Jordan’s message was that DRIVE can accomplish amazing things.
  4. Shaklee is becoming even more professional. Shaklee is hiring top executives with strong CPG backgrounds such as experience with P&G. This tells a lot about the professional direction for the company down the road.
  5. Shaklee-ize your home for a reason. The real reason to Shaklee-ize your home is because that is the way you will have your very own Shaklee story to relate to others. It will much tougher if your Shaklee story is how you watch others use the products and improve their lives but don’t take advantage of it the opportunity yourself.
  6. The Power of ONE is the simplest and most valuable lesson of the weekend. The Power of ONE shows you that you should always share your Shaklee story – either for the products or for the business opportunity – every chance you get. You never know when you will find the right ONE to pick up the ball and run with it.
  7. Retirement can be scary. According to the US Department of Commerce, out of every 100 working 25-year olds today, in the future:
    1. 1 will be wealthy
    2. 4 have enough to retire
    3. 63 will be on Social Security or charity
    4. 29 will be deceased(NOTE: they didn’t say what happened to the other three – Roswell???) It makes you wonder where you will be, doesn’t it?
  8. Business Fundamentals are key. Reviewing the Commit to Business Fundamentals is always a good thing:
    1. Dream
    2. Commit
    3. List
    4. Contact & invite
    5. Share
    6. Follow-up
    7. Sponsor
    8. Do it again
  9. Belief. Your level of excitement will never go below your level of belief. So if you believe in the products and the opportunity it will be easier to share.
  10. Attend everything. There are many opportunities with Shaklee to meet with other business leaders, potential leads, top executives, and satisfied customers. Attend every event possible and you will learn something new each time to help you out. I learned these 12 things and more just this weekend. And if there aren’t enough events, create your own.
  11. Follow-up is essential to success. Follow-up can take many forms. Phone calls. E-mails. Newsletters. Webinars. And doing something special once a year. This is just common sense for any marketing program but even more important for a Shaklee business leader.
  12. Recruit, recruit, and recruit. Schedule as many presentations – in person or online – as you possibly can. Numbers are the key to success. You will be told “no” so many more times than “yes” so you need to get out there.

How To Make 2013 A Great Year

It’s GrOw Time
Greetings,

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! The past few weeks always seem to be super busy. Now it’s time to get our focus back on our visions and dreams so 2013 can be a terrific year. Thanks to Keith Patterson for sending me the following 5 possible barriers all of us might face during the coming months.

Enthusiastically,

Gary Burke

Why do some people achieve their goals while others fail? I believe it’s because successful people manage to overcome five barriers that, in many cases, guarantee failure. Here are those barriers and how to overcome them:

1. Uninspiring Goals

When most people set goals, they envision a “thing,” such as a particular amount of money, an object (like a new car), or a specific achievement (like writing a book). Unfortunately, these “things I’m gonna get or do” goals don’t appeal to the core of what motivates you, because they miss the point that what you’re actually seeking in life and work is the POSITIVE EMOTIONS that you believe those things will produce.

Fix: Rather than envisioning a “thing” as your goal, envision–with all the strength in your imagination–how you will feel when you achieve the goal. That way, you’ll be inspired to do whatever it takes (within legal and ethical bounds) to achieve that goal.

2. Fear of Failure

If you’re afraid of failing, you won’t take the necessary risks required to achieve your goal. For example, you won’t make that important phone call, because you’re afraid that you’ll be rebuffed. Or you won’t quit your dead-end job and start your own business because you’re afraid that you might end up without any money.

Fix: Decide–right now!–that failure, for you, is a strictly temporary condition. If things don’t go the way you’d like, it’s only a setback that, at most, delays your eventual success. In other words, accept the fact that you’ll sometimes fail, but treat that failure as an unavoidable (yet vital) component in your quest.

3. Fear of Success

In many ways, this fear is even more debilitating than the fear of failure. Suppose you achieved something spectacular, like enormous wealth. What if it didn’t make you happy? What then? What if you ended up losing all of it? What then? Would your friends start acting weird? Would your family be envious? Such thoughts (and they’re common) can cause even a highly motivated person to self-sabotage.

FIX: Decide that you’re going to be happy and grateful today and happy and grateful in the future, no matter what happens. Rather than focus on possible problems, envision how wonderful it would be to be able to help your friends and family achieve THEIR goals.

4. An Unrealistic Timetable

Most people vastly overestimate what they can do in a week and vastly underestimate what they can do in a year. Because of this, most people try to cram too many action items into the short term rather than spacing out activities over the long term. The inability to get all the short-term steps accomplished creates discouragement and the impression that the final goal is slipping away.

Fix: As you list the activities and steps required to achieve a goal, schedule only the 20% of the activities that will produce 80% of your results. Beyond that, set ambitious long-term timetables, but always leave some “wiggle room” when you plan short term.

5. Worrying About “Dry Spots”

It’s easy to get discouraged when you reach a point at which nothing you do seems to advance you toward your goal. For example, suppose you’re trying to master a certain skill. You make swift progress at first but then, after a while, it seems as if you’re not doing any better, or maybe a little worse. Some people use these “plateaus” or “dry spots” as an excuse to give up and therefore fail.

Fix: Whenever you reach a plateau or dry spot, it’s time to celebrate rather than give up. A plateau is almost always a sign that you’re on the brink of a major breakthrough, if you just have the patience to stick with it and trust that you’ll eventually achieve your goal.

What is Direct Selling?

Direct selling is the way that individuals sell directly to other individuals – without a retail store location.

Direct sellers can sell to their friends, family, and other people they know.  They can also advertise to meet new people who might be interested in the products and services.

Some direct sellers purchase the products and resell them to their customers and even deliver them.  More common now is direct selling on the internet where customers order products online and they are shipped directly to the customer.

Direct selling can also include recruiting other direct sellers who will join their team and the direct selling will earn a commission on their sales.  This is also called Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM).

Do you have to be a great salesman to be a successful direct seller?

Many direct sellers are natural salesmen and saleswomen who can easily sell products to anyone they meet.  However even people who don’t consider themselves to be a salesman can be successful if they believe in their products and are willing to work hard.

Most direct selling programs include training to help everyone develop their selling skills.

What products are sold by direct selling?

The products that are sold by the top direct selling companies include cosmetics, fashion apparel, jewelry, nutrition supplements, personal care items, storage products, weight-loss programs, mobile phone programs, and financial services.

Is direct selling legal?

Yes direct selling is legal.  In the United States direct selling has been a part of the American economy since the founding over 200 years ago. And in China as an example certain companies have government approval to develop direct selling organizations.

Is direct selling a good business?

Direct selling is a good business for the right people who find the right business.  But any successful direct seller will also be one of the hardest workers.  If the company promises that you don’t have to do anything and you will become rich, it probably will not be true.

“Go for No” – How to Build Your MLM Business

I was on a call tonight that was hosted by Tyler and Mimi Ford and featured Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz from GoForNo.com.

Here are some of the things that I learned.

In MLM, it can be to your advantage to learn to “Go for No”, meaning that you want to hear the word “NO” and even seek it out. How can that work out?

  • By hearing the word “NO” over and over again, it loses its power over you.
  • If you are hearing the word “NO” that means you are out talking to people – and that is a real key to success.
  • NO doesn’t always mean “NO”, it can also mean, not right now; so you want to follow up later.
  • But you have to be able to recognize when it really does mean NO, so it is time to move on and not create any bad feelings.
  • By setting goals of hearing a target number of “NO’s” each week or each month, the impact of each one won’t be the same as before.
  • This process can help you overcome the “roller-coaster” you sometimes feel in building your business. It may dampen the positive feelings of each “YES”, but it will be off-set by not feeling down when you get that next “NO”.

This is a great approach for everyone out there selling and building their business.  You never know when you are out there searching for the next “NO” might turn out to be the best “YES” you have ever achieved.

Now to put this into practice, I think it will be important to:

  • First figure out where all of these “NO’s” might be lurking. You can only talk to your friends and family so many times. There needs to be a much larger pool of potential people to talk with. That is the next step.
  • And you also will need to devise a way to capture the contact information on the people you think really mean “not yet”.  This is where using the internet can definitely come in handy. A good email program – with the right list of your contacts – can be incredibly powerful to organize this information for future use.

To learn more and get started you can check out the information on the web site for Richard and Andrea at http://goforno.com. And for a special discount, you can check out the coupon code available from Tyler and Mimi on TylerandMimi.com.

I just ordered the book “Go for NO” and can’t wait for it to arrive. I want to get started right now! Click here or on the image below to get your copy.

Go for No Book

Remember that in MLM usually the people who have heard the most “NO’s” are the one that are making the most money!

Life Immediately After the Military

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Rik_Lepine

Have you recently separated or retired from the military? Maybe you’re coming up on that date in the near future. Will you be using the experience and knowledge to go back into government or contractor service? This is a typical path. Are you following the typical path? Do you wish you can follow a different path?

In today’s economy government service is one of the more comfortable and “safe” jobs compared to commercial jobs on the market, when you can find them. Here’s the more important question…are you still passionate about serving in government service and is that truly what you want to do as opposed to having to do it because there is no other choice?

There are other choices.

As much as military members are proud to serve their country, some of us just need a change of scenery. Have you thought about going into business yourself? Many have aspirations to open a restaurant, a shop, retail store, a fast food chain, etc…the start-up cost and brick & mortar address can be several thousand to millions of dollars. Not every business has this start-up cost associated with it.

Robert Kiosaki, business builder, investor and bestselling author of personal business books has endorsed a business he calls “The Business of the 21st Century”. It has very low start-up cost, no inventory, no employees and low operating cost. In the information age we are now in, using the internet to connect people, Kiosaki says “our network determines our net worth.”

This business is multi-level marketing (MLM), a multi-trillion dollar industry. In my opinion the majority of military members could generate a sizable income in a MLM business. Why? Because with any business leaders get things done!

You don’t have to keep trading hours for dollars. People are only as wealthy as the money they have to live their lifestyle without trading hours for dollars. That’s either having millions in the bank or having money generated through business or investment without having to trade hours for dollars. An MLM business is just that, a business that can generate as little or as much money as you desire.

Don’t get stuck in a paradigm that keeps you working for someone else. Be your own boss. Make the paradigm shift. Be an entrepreneur in a turn-key operation that most MLMs can offer. The only way MLM business owners make money is to help others make money. That’s the beauty of the system. Don’t let your broke, in-debt up to their eyeballs, friends and family hold you back from doing something amazing for your family. You can do this!

Are you a leader? Are you ready to be your own boss?

Leaders, feel free to contact me.

Rik Lepine

You need a lot of people to tell you no so you find those few that say yes – and mean it.

Quality vs. quantity. Which do you want?

Every marketer has a dilemma. Do they want a lot of leads or a few good ones? Do you want a lot of website traffic or would you rather have only a few, but very qualified leads visit your site?

Basically it is a numbers game.

You need a lot of people to tell you “no” so you find those few that say “yes” – and mean it.

Success in direct marketing involves having a program in place where you reach a large number of people, but can prosper if only a small percentage actually respond. Direct mail pieces that you receive every day in your mail box cost a lot of money to create, print, and mail. Yet if only 2% of those names on your list respond you are probably going to make money. So this means that 98% of the letters were sent out needlessly?

As marketing has moved online, the cost of reaching out has decreased dramatically. Instead of putting together a $1 letter or a $3 catalog, everything can be done on the internet for a fraction of the cost. Email is almost free to distribute and a good looking HTML email can be created for a few hundred dollars. The web site landing page is going to take some time, effort, and expense, but everyday we all see many websites that look like they were done inexpensively. The marginal cost of contacting one more person is very low. So low in fact that these days we have spam filters that catch most of the email delivered to us and we don’t even take the time to look at it.

Social media is growing as a marketing tool. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and too many others to name have joined email as powerful email marketing tools. It may take time to build a large list of Twitter followers, Facebook friends, or YouTube subscribers. Yet we can be certain that they work or we wouldn’t be inundated with these messages daily.

So back to the question: do you want quantity or quality when you are marketing online?

Actually you want both.

You need to reach the largest audience possible because, like any good direct marketer, the number of people that will ignore you is huge. That is quantity. Check out some of the marketers on Twitter with 25,000 followers. Do you think they really can read all of those messages?

But from this almost universally unresponsive crowd a few people are going to respond. They actually click on your Tweet link. They “like” your Facebook page. They watch your entire YouTube video. They comment on your web site blog post.

The key to success is what you do next.

These individuals have made the first move. It is your turn to present your message to these interested people. And then to start a dialog with them about yourself, your products, your services. And most importantly what you can do for them.

This is quality.

And where it gets to be fun and interesting. No successful salesperson can turn down the opportunity to present their message in hopes of making the sale, of completing the transaction. While all of the social media and other online tools can be effective in reaching out to an audience, they can be just as powerful in creating a type of relationship with an interested individual. Personalization, message, timing, and the offer all make or break the sale. And programs such as webinars can bring people together almost as if they are in the same room.

So our experience is that you want both quantity and quality. Concentrating on one alone will make it very difficult to become successful. In our business it is the personal touch that makes people keep coming back. And we want to use online tools to make that happen.

Good luck with your program!
