The PTDC Mailbag: Grow Your Social Media Followers Organically, and More Questions Answered

Source: http://www.theptdc.com/2016/05/the-ptdc-mailbag-how-to-grow-your-social-media-followers-organically/

I get tons of questions all the time.

Rather than just hitting reply and having it exist as an email response that only one person could see, I want to share my fully thought-out responses with you, the wider PTDC community. And so, I present to you The PTDC Mailbag, a monthly feature where I’ll throw together a mixed bag of your questions and answer them more in-depth.

In this edition, I answer the following questions:

How do I expand my business on social media and gain more followers (without “buying” them)?
How do you overcome the feeling that you don’t know enough or aren’t ‘qualified’ to train someone?
What is the best way to keep clients on, and not let them drop off?

Without further ado, here we go.

1. How do I expand my business on social media and gain more followers (without “buying” them)?

– Kristin A.

Hey, Kristin. First, I’ll clear up a misconception: more followers aren’t necessarily good. This is coming from a guy with 220,000+ Facebook fans. It’s not just about the number.

You need deeper and more engaged relationships.

In fact, larger numbers on Facebook can hurt you because organic views–the views that you get witho…

Super Sprints: Roman’s Guide to Being Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

Source: http://romanfitnesssystems.com/articles/sprint-guide/

supersprintsIf you’ve ever read anything about athletic training, you’ve heard the saying speed kills. And it’s true.

In sports, the domain of our own brand of superheroes, the faster you are, the more successful you tend to be. Along with strength, speed is one of the few characteristics that will allow you to be a bit less developed than others.

Strength and speed can often help you out-perform someone who may be more technically skilled.

And, like strength, speed is one of the few attributes that will have carryover to everything else; increasing speed will also factor into, in varying degrees, qualities like agility and dexterity. It will decrease reaction time, allow you to change directions more quickly, and even hit harder.

Whether you’re competing in sports, want to be more successful as a weekend warrior, or are training to be an everyday superhero, speed is one of your greatest and most important assets.

No matter what type of action you’re into, speed kills. What else is going to make you better at scoring touchdowns and chasing down a purse-snatching thief?

Like anything else, it’s highly trainable. And it’s a good thing, too.

Some heroes are born with super speed. Guys like Superman have it made—just drink in the delicious rays of Earth’s yell…

Lorenzo Mendoza greets and kisses worker at his shuttered brewery in Caracas, Venezuela. He’s trying to boost morale.

Mendoza is the chief executive of Venezuelan food giant Empresas Polar, which was founded in 1941 and is now the largest private company in this socialist country.

But Polar has come upon tough times. Many of its processing plants are running at half-speed, and thousands of employees have been furloughed since April, when all four of the company’s breweries shut down due to a barley shortage.

The government controls access to foreign currency, and Mendoza says it has refused to provide the dollars Polar needs to import barley, which doesn’t grow in Venezuela’s tropical climate.

As Mendoza leaves the brewery, Polar workers break into a chant: “Materias primas ya, queremos trabajar!” or “Raw materials now — we want to work!”

It’s not just these workers who are …

Why You Should Make Your Bed Every Morning

Have you heard the story about Van Halen and Brown M&Ms?

As the story famously goes, 80’s rock band Van Halen (feel free to listen to “Right Now” while reading this article) had a line in their incredibly detailed contract from their tour in 1982 (the list of things they expect to have at every concert) that required they have a bowl of M&Ms in the green room… and there were to be NO brown M&Ms in that bowl.

vanhalenrider

For years everyone assumed that was just a crazy band making crazy demands (like in Airheads), simply because they could. In fact, there was a show in which they found brown M&Ms in their bowl and reportedly refused to play and trashed the dressing room!

What a bunch of asshole rockstars, right?

Maybe not.

It turns out, there was a calculated method to this madness, and it might make you think you need a brown M&M clause in your life.

How you do anything is how you do everything

do it right

In Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth’s autobiography, he talks about why his band had the brown M&M clause in their band’s …

How Can Ruediger Switch to Weight Maintenance After Losing 120 lbs From Strict Dieting?

Ruediger faces one of the most difficult questions related to weight control, which is how to maintain your weight after achieving significant weight loss as a result of strict dieting.

Although he has already made huge progress finding an exercise regimen he enjoys, food is more difficult for him. He has only ever known subsiding on lots of junk food or restricting his calories to just 500 per day. Switching to a more moderate approach based on Real Food and not counting calories is appealing to him in theory, but he worries that he will not be able to maintain control of his weight without strongly restricting his eating habits.

Another issue Ruediger faces is that he has a very limited palate as a result of eating mostly processed and convenience foods for most of his life. He’s concerned that at the age of 44 he will be restricted to the handful of vegetables he actually enjoys and not have adequate nutrition. He also struggles with finding the motivation to prepare nutritious foods at home, since chopping, cooking and cleaning rarely feel worth the effort.

Together we examine the limiting beliefs that make changing his eating habits seem difficult and come up with strategies to overcome them.

In this sweet 18-minute yoga practice, you’ll experience simple, exquisite, accessible postures brilliantly strung together to unwind the body to leave you feeling grounded and refreshed. Focusing on hips and hamstrings, there are no Chaturangas, or even Downward-Facing Dogs to give your wrists a break. This is the type of practice that a raw beginner could tackle, an experienced practitioner could use to explore her body, and a mother could do while her kids crawl all over her. You’ll use conscious tension within the practice to ultimately create more openness and freedom.

If you’re in need of further restoration, please enjoy this simple practice made with mamas in mind.

A Simple Yoga Sequence to Wake Up The Body

Source: http://www.sonima.com/yoga/yoga-to-wake-the-body/

I wake up my body in the morning the same way like to begin my yoga practice. The sequence is simple, spherical, and it opens up the spine, pelvis, shoulders, and neck. It’s easy to dial it up or down, which makes it versatile and something you can easily commit to every day.  Let it feel natural and organic for your body and your context, so allow yourself to veer on and off the path in whatever way you need.

Spinal Circles

Sit in a comfortable, cross-legged seat with your hands on your knees. Start to “stir the pot” using your hands for leverage and control. Make big or small circles moving from pubic bone, to sitz bone, to tailbone, to the other sitz bone.  After a few moments circling in one direction, switch.  Feel that you are massaging your organs and starting to unlock the sacral plate. Imagine your torso as a bowl and you mind becomes the big wooden spoon mixing everything up.

This is the second installment in a series of guided meditation videos designed to help you improve your focus and awareness as well as encourage you to be more present with the breath in your daily life. This particular breath meditation is meant for people who already have an existing practice. If you’re new to meditation, please start with this video, A Breath Meditation for Beginners, to learn the basics that will set you up to be present and calm. In this follow-up session led by Lodro Rinzler, a Shambhala Buddhist meditation teacher and chief spiritual officer of MNDFL (a drop-in meditation studio in New York City), you will be asked to keep your eyes open throughout the guided meditation. It may feel strange and counter-intuitive at first, especially if you generally meditate with closed eyes, but ultimately, it will inspire your body and mind to wake up to the present.
