Yes, you read the headline right. Cancelling Little Stoke parkrun is a GOOD thing. We all need to remember that.
I’m sure I won’t be the first person to have an opinion on this. Nor the last. Runners across the country, including former Olympians Paula Radcliffe and Dame Kelly Holmes, have been supporting the campaign to keep Little Stoke free after Stoke Gifford Parish Council voted to charge runners £1 each to use the park.
That might not seem much but it’s a matter of principle – parkrun is, and should always remain, FREE to all. It represents everything that’s great about running – community, inclusivity, health and wellbeing. We run parkrun to feel part of something. To push ourselves to achieve more. To be healthier, and happier. To bring people together, and build a better future for us and our children.
Over 8,000 parkrunners this week were first timers. Running participation has increased hugely over the past few years, with one million more people running every week than a decade ago. parkrun is helping to change the world into a healthier place.

The deadlift is perhaps the best way to demonstrate pure full body strength. Like a big squat, a big deadlift is generally representative of a strong lifter overall. Also like the squat, the deadlift involves almost all the major muscle groups of the body—the entire torso, including the stomach and upper and lower back; the entire posterior chain; the legs, and the grip. As such it is a phenomenal developmental exercise especially when we take into consideration all of its variants: conventional, sumo, snatch grip, one arm or one leg, pulling from varying heights or with different bars or implements, and more interesting ways of lifting a barbell from the floor like zercher or Jefferson lifts. Finally, the first way the deadlift is taught and for many, the only way the deadlift will ever be done is in the hinge pattern—one of the more important basic movements that a human body can perform.

Despite the massive potential for variation in deadlift form, there are a few basic rules that should always be followed to make the lift both safe and mechanically efficient. And… guess what… plenty of people don’t know about them or ignore them completely. We try to instill these general guidelines as soon as possible in all of our clients; but when I venture outside the most common mistakes I see are as follows:

Starting the lift with the hips too low
Starting the lift with the bar too far away from the shins
Loss of torso integrity

You misunderstand the whole “PC Culture” thing.
You work “libtard” into conversation on a regular basis.

It’s the standard date setup: mood lighting and overpriced cocktails. You can barely read the menu, but damn do you look good. The other downside? New research suggests dimly lit restaurants may be to blame for poor food choices.

In fact, people who ate in well-lit rooms were nearly 25 percent more likely to eat something healthy (think veggies and salmon instead of fried chicken and mashed potatoes), while diners in darker restaurants ordered food that had nearly 40 percent more calories.

Researchers say it has to do with how alert you are. When given caffeine, diners in both bright and dark rooms were equally likely to make healthy meal choices. So instead of forgoing date night or boycotting restaurants with a romantic ambiance, get a cup of coffee with your meal or simply be more mindful of what you order.

As we lean into the start of summer, I’m craving food that is juicy, delectable, easy, and fun. I want meals that lend themselves to the joy of the party, rather than becoming the main event, as is so often the case around holidays in the colder months. Watermelon, popsicles, vibrant salads, ice cream, and, yes, veggie burgers.

Raised a vegetarian, I have long held a very special place in my heart for veggie burgers. I remember the first, epic GardenBurger I tried, the way its savory blend paired so perfectly with melted cheese, avocado, dill pickles, and tangy ketchup. I’ve tried many a veggie burger since then, and have come to appreciate those that stay vegetable-centric while hitting as many umami notes as possible.

It was five years ago this month that my father passed away from cancer. About four months before his death, his oncologist gave him a bleak diagnosis, telling him to get his affairs in order because he could die at any time.
