The Biggest Mistake Batman Makes in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Source: http://romanfitnesssystems.com/articles/mistake-batman-superman-fight/

batmannThere are a number of odd things that take place in Batman v Superman – the jar of piss, the request to use the Daily Planet’s helicopter for personal use, the storytelling gaps wide enough for Doomsday to fall into – but the most egregious of all seems to be the one most overlooked.

It takes place right before the much-hyped fight.

It’s been nearly two years since the Battle of Metropolis (a new watermark for collateral damage) and Bruce Wayne has had it with the Man of Steel: he’s prepared a Kryptonite-tipped spear and has got his Batarmor shined and polished.

Everything’s set until he does the one thing that should trip him up more than anything Superman can throw at him: he works out.

And he doesn’t just work out; he works out hard.

He goes for the weighted belt pull-ups; he does some battle ropes; he even pushes his Batprowler sled. You could argue that much of this is some form of conditioning, but you could also argue that he’s doing what we’ve seen a number of heroes do before a big fight: get one last, pain-tinged, sweat-soaked workout in.

From a storytelling perspective, it makes sense: the man has to pump himself up for the big battle.

But from a fitness perspective, it makes about as much sense as a jar of Granny’s Pe…

A Mini-Guide to Not Being Frustrated All the Time

Source: http://zenhabits.net/frustrated/

By Leo Babauta

Pretty much all of us experience frustration on a daily (or even hourly) basis. We get frustrated by other people, by ourselves, by technology, by work situations, by small crises that come up all the time.

You know you’re frustrated when you find yourself sighing, or complaining about people, or fuming about something that happened, or going over why you’re right and they’re wrong.

Frustration is normal, but holding on to frustration is not so fun. It’s not even helpful: if the situation isn’t great, adding frustration on top of it just makes it worse. Often frustration will make us not happy with someone else, and worsen our relationship with them. Or it will cause us to be less calm, and handle a situation less than ideally.

How can we calm ourselves and let go of our frustrations, so we’re not so irritated and angry throughout the day?

Let’s talk about why we get frustrated, and how to address this problem.

The Origins of Frustration

Where does our frustration come from?

It’s from not wanting things to be a certain way. Not wanting other people to behave a certain way. Not wanting ourselves to be a certain way.

It’s a rejection of how things are.

From this, we start to tell ourselves a story: she shouldn’t act that way, she should do this. And she always does this! Why can’t she just see that she’s wrong? She’s so irritati…

Player One: You are about to die.

Source: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2016/04/21/player-one-you-are-about-to-die/

Are you wasting your most valuable resource?

Imagine I told you today that you had a wallet with $1,000 in it. You could spend it on whatever or whoever you want. But you wake up again tomorrow with a new $1,000, whether you spend none or all of it.

What would you choose to do?

I’d guess you’ll spend it! You might spend it on an experience, something you’ve always wanted to buy, or maybe you’d spend it on others.

Right? After all, if it’s gonna disappear tomorrow might as well spend it.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m not really talking bout money. I’m talking about the resource that’s infinitely more valuable, non-refundable, and non-renewable:

I’m talking bout, TIME, sucka!

Every day, if we’re not careful, we can spend our most valuable non-renewable resource on things that just don’t freaking matter:

In a job that we hate, or one that doesn’t fulfill us.
With people that don’t bring us happiness instead of with those that do
Being angry or mad at things that don’t matter
Not doing the things we actually want to accomplish.

Over the past few years, after losing many friends at young ages, I’ve started to remember death daily. It’s a bit morbid, but also a bit inspiring and hopeful.

One thing is for sure: it’s changed how I attack each day, remembering that time is not infinite, so I might a…

What’s the one word that describes how you approach your personal training/coaching?

Intuitiveness.

What is your main training focus? For yourself and your clients?

If I had to narrow it down, I’d say it is fun and exploratory. I’ve dabbled in a little bit of everyth…

Ask Shaun: Options for healthy, portable snacks?

Source: http://www.karpfitness.com/pack-fruit-for-a-healthy-snack/

Q: I am a college student and I often buy something from the vending machine when I get hungry in between classes. What is the best thing to have? A: Most vending machines contain very few nutritious foods – if any. Many people choose sunflower seeds or peanuts thinking they are having a healthy snack. While nuts and seeds contain valuable vitamins and … Read More

Invisible Bruises

The strong woman in me resisted being labeled a victim. If I admitted to that identity, would I loose the only power and dignity that I thought I had managed to hold on to? Or would I free myself and release the shame and guilt I’d been carrying around?  Unknown-3ShareTweetPlusPin

The scars of domestic abuse aren’t always visible, the emotional, financial, and spiritual abuse can sometimes go undetected for much longer, but it’s wounds just as real and painful. It’s taken 10 years to reclaim that final part of me that was beaten down and suppressed, and now, I’m ready to tell my story.

There is no shame in being a victim and there is profound beauty and power that can arise from the darkness.Unknown-4ShareTweetPlusPin

At the height of the abuse my physical body was in tatters; I was a shell of my former self. The only time I would remember who I was, the only time that I would connect to that flickering light within me, was when I was practicing yoga. I would drag myself to class and arrive with pu…

Just Because It Can Fit Your Macros Doesn’t Mean It Should

mymacrsoIn my World of Warcraft days, I was a force to be reckoned with.

My lvl 70 troll shaman was built to dominate in PVP battlegrounds and big PVE raids. I was spec’d restoration and my heals were uber leet.

My team dominated on the battlegrounds, but it didn’t come easily.

Day after day, I spent hour after hour living in a world of HP and mana, intellect and stamina (the stamina of my magical avatar, as well as my own). Skipping sleep to play WoW was easy for me, and I used it to my advantage: I got really, really good.

But, alas, yes, there was a cost.

Sure, I could stay up late, take a three-hour nap, crush an energy drink, and be mostly OK at school, but it wore me down. Life became a fog. My grades grew mediocre, my friendships weakened, and I was constantly falling asleep in class.

Before long, I went from revering to regretting every night I spent playing the game. As it continued to sap my energy, I started merely going through the motions of life without reaping any of its benefits.

Just Because You Can Do Something, Doesn’t Mean You Should

I shouldn’t have played so much World of Warcraft. I know that now.

And in the defense of online gamers everywhere, I actually learned…

Food and Fitness Fun

Hey friends! Happy Wednesday! For those of you on the east coast – how about this summery weather? It’s been so warm here this week – perfect for deck eating!

blue apron al fresco

I didn’t get a picture of last night’s dinner since it was nearly dark out on the deck by the time we ate, but here is Monday night’s dinner! Blue Apron, obvi. This one was delicious, but lacking in the veggies (it had asparagus in it but not a lot), so I added some string beans on the side. :)

As for fitness this week, I kicked things off Monday morning with a session with Paul Medina from Capital Energy Training! I love that the weather is nice enough…

Packing in Nutrition with Pre-Dinner Snacks

Source: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/04/19/packing-in-nutrition-with-pre-dinner-snacks-2/

Thank you to Sabra for sponsoring this post!

When I was little, I remember hovering around my mom when she was making dinner, hungry and being a bother. Her response? She’d feed us veggies. I especially remember eating a lot of fresh bell peppers pre-dinner – she’d toss slices of them back at me and my brother like we were wild animals being held off from making an attack. (Which perhaps we kind of were.)

eat your veggies before dinner

Now that I’m off on my own, I still use this approach of snacking on veggies before and while making dinner, usually with some sort of delicious dip addition like hummus. It’s something I recommend to my AnneTheRD nutrition clients, too, because it’s a great way to sneak in some extra veggies and nutrition while everyone is hungry.
