Oh my goodness, I am LOVING this weather and it just makes everyone so healthy and happy.  It’s time to throw on those shorts and getting outside and enjoy the fresh air.  Yay!

Now, today I wanted to talk a little TRUTH about DETOX.  As many of you know, I am a detox specialist and certified CLEAN Wellness Coach with Dr. Alejandro Junger’s Clean Team.

Thanks to much of what we hear in the media, detoxing has earned a reputation for being unhealthy and even unsafe. When you hear the word “detox,” do you immediately think of all-liquid diets, expensive supplements and short-term deprivation for short-term gains?

It all started with a simple request. In 2006, Cathryn Couch was working as a chef, making home-delivery meals for clients. One day, a friend called and asked: Did Couch have any cooking jobs for her teenage daughter? She didn’t, but the friend persisted. So Couch eventually came up with a project: making meals and delivering them to a local homeless center.

After seeing how excited and proud her friend’s daughter was after making the meals, Couch decided to replicate their lesson on a grander scale. That’s how, in 2007, the Ceres Community Project was born.

No amount of ‘free from’ labelling will make processed food good for you

Campbell’s is phasing BPA out of its cans. That, and GMO-labelling initiatives, are all great, but canned foods still aren’t fresh, local or sustainable

If a company wants customers to buy its products, it must make products customers want to buy.

Americans these days don’t want artificial and unsustainably produced ingredients in the food they buy and eat. For the makers of highly processed foods – ultraprocessed in today’s terminology – there isn’t a lot that they can do to make the products appear fresh and natural.

But Campbell’s is certainly trying. A few months after announcing that it will phase out genetically modified organisms (GMOs), the iconic soup company said on Friday that it will remove Bisphenol-A (BPA) from its cans by next year.

BPA, you will recall, is a chemical typically used in polycarbonate plastic containers and in the epoxy linings of food cans. It’s also an endocrine disrupter, which means it can interfere with the work our hormones are doing. Some research finds BPA to have effects on childhood development and reproduction.

Although the FDA doesn’t believe evidence of potential harm is sufficient to ban BPA from the food supply, the agency discourages use of BPA-polycarbonate or epoxy resins in baby bottles, sippy cups or packaging for infant f…

“Organic.” “Sustainable.” “Local.” These are terms that often make us feel comforted and provide a haloed seal of approval for the foods we eat, even when those foods include cupcakes and lollypops! Yet a word like “processed,” creates a negative impression even if we’re referring to frozen broccoli.

“Processed” has become a buzzword that food activists love to hate, but most don’t even realize that they eat processed food at just about every meal. According to the International Food Information Council Foundation, a processed food is “any deliberate change in a food that occurs before it’s available for us to eat.” So if you enjoyed a slice of organic whole grain local bread this morning with your breakfast, then you consumed a processed food. If unprocessed, instead of bread, you would have been chewing on a stalk of wheat.

Processing, therefore, may create changes impacting and sometimes even enhancing the texture, shape, taste, and temperature of a food. In fact, certain processed foods are healthier than foods found in their natural state. Chronic or severe pain affects nearly 50 million American adults, reports a new study prepared by National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, which was published in The Journal of Pain last summer. About half of these people are suffering from chronic pain every single day. Steven, the subject of Sonima.com’s new video series called “Becoming Pain Free,” is one of them.

The 34-year-old independent filmmaker and photographer, who just moved to Los Angeles with his wife Melanie and 5-year-old son Victor, has been battling consistent joint pain in his legs, wrists, and lower back—a byproduct of his profession that requires holding heavy camera equipment for hours—for about nine years. It’s common for Steven to wake up with numb arms and feet and unable to walk.
