How to Make Chicken More Interesting

Source: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/04/26/how-to-make-chicken-more-interesting/

A few nights ago, Matt and I made a super simple (but delicious) dinner that I thought was worth sharing. Want to know how to make chicken, rice, and veggies more interesting? Add black beans!

Maybe it’s just me, but for some reason the addition of black beans makes the meal so much more delicious. Try it and let me know what you think! Reminds me of all the yummy chicken, rice, and beans that we had on our honeymoon a few years ago. :)

We had some leftovers from that dinner so I turned it into an easy packed lunch for work today, along with the addition of some other leftovers from our homemade weekend brunch – sweet potatoes, peppers, and mushrooms!

4 Ways to Improve Your Fitness Brand and Eliminate the Competition

Source: http://www.theptdc.com/2016/04/improve-your-fitness-marketing-and-branding-with-the-usp-principle/

Nowadays you can open up any social media app and instantly scroll through hundreds of popular fitness professionals and models with their picture-perfect abs and finely chiseled muscles. But for every hot, airbrushed bod, there’s an ever-growing opportunity for a serious professional like yourself to make a difference in the world…and be rewarded for it.

The first step is to discover who you are. In this industry, that is. You have to identify what makes you and your services unique because when you do, you essentially make the competition irrelevant. Here’s what you do.

1. Avoid being a knock-off trainer

CopycatAs you discover yourself and your calling, it’s so easy to see someone’s awesome pictures and videos and want to be just like them. Sure, it’s okay to be inspired by other trainers and learn from what they’re best at, but copying them straight up is career suicide. Why?

A copycat is second-rate at best: Copying another trainer’s workouts, website, personal style and marketing will just render you a second-rate version of the original. (Plus, that can be considered plagiarism.)

Clients are smarter than you think: Potential clients usually follow more than one professional on social me…

Set Powerful Deadlines

Source: http://zenhabits.net/deadlines/

By Leo Babauta

This week, I am cramming out work, because I’m leaving on a cruise that’s going to last almost a month.

I am not usually this productive, but I’m really killing it because I want to get all my work done before I leave.

On the cruise, I have two big projects I’ve set for myself, with a deadline to finish them before the cruise ends.

Before the cruise, I also have a challenge to finish the first 60 lessons of the Pimsleur Spanish course, which I’ve tried and failed to do a few times before (!) but am now going to complete. How am I able to complete it this time? I gave myself a deadline to finish the lessons by the cruise, or my friend Tynan will get to punch me in the face if I don’t.

These are self-imposed deadlines, and they’re absolutely working.

I’m not always a fan of deadlines and goals, but it’s good to be able to use whatever works best for you. If you’re working great without deadlines and goals, then by all means, keep going. But if you’re struggling to push a project forward (or a learning project like language lessons), then you might try a self-imposed deadline.

Here are some things that work for me:

Have an external motivation for meeting the deadline. For example, leaving for my trip is a deadline for all the work I have to do, because I won’t have good internet connections on the trip, so I really need to get pretty much every…

When it comes to introducing babies to solid foods, rice cereal is often first. And rice is a staple in many baby and toddler foods.

But, as we’ve reported, multiple studies have found that rice-based foods contain traces of arsenic, and sometimes levels are surprisingly high.

Now comes a new study published in JAMA Pediatrics that finds babies who are fed rice cereals — and other rice-based snacks — have higher concentrations of arsenic in their urine compared with infants who are not fed rice.

“The highest arsenic concentrations were among those who consumed infant rice cereal,” says researcher Margaret Karagas, an epidemiologist at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. “Among those [babies] who ate rice snacks, levels were about double [that of] non-rice eaters.”

I Tried to Be a Morning Person for 30 Days. Here's What Worked (and What Didn't)

Source: http://greatist.com/live/i-tried-to-be-a-morning-person-for-30-days?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

If you spend any time online, you’ll inevitably come across an article (or 15) spelling out steps to reach the near-mythical status of becoming a morning person.

It all sounds so simple: Stop hitting snooze. Set a positive intention for the day. Open the drapes and let the sunlight stream in. Easy enough, right?

For me, not so much. I’m not a morning person and never have been. I could sleep until noon in college. Class at 8 a.m.? No chance. Now I’m fortunate to work in an industry where work doesn’t really begin until 9 or 10 a.m., so I usually wake up around 8 a.m. (save for the rare morning workout).

Still, the idea of becoming an early bird has always intrigued me. As I attempted to fit more into my days—work, a social life, exercise, and some necessary alone time—I realized there was only one way to keep up with all my obligations without losing my mind: wake up earlier. Plus, research shows morning people tend to be happier and more agreeable.1

One month ago I set a goal to wake up at 6:30 a.m. every weekday (I let myself sleep utill 8 a.m. on weekends). I did my research, read countless articles, and sourced advice from early-bird friends. Here are the tips that worked—and the ones that didn’t.

Scheduling 1. Make a schedule.

A Spring Weekend in DC

Source: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/04/25/a-spring-weekend-in-dc/

Hello my friends! Matt and I had a nice, relaxing weekend here in DC. It was great to be home after all our travels! I treated myself to a calming evening yoga class on Friday at my old favorite Edge Yoga via ClassPass – perfect way to begin the weekend.

Saturday was rainy and all about eating! I slept in and then met a group of girlfriends for brunch at Founding Farmers in DC.

brunch at founding farmers

I think Founding Farmers is way overrated (and always SOOOO crowded/stressful when you first arrive), but the company was wonderful. Always good to catch up with old friends! Part 2 of Saturday’s eating adventures was dinner at Rustico in Ballston for my high school friend Hilary’s birthday! I love their food – the kale barley salad topped with salmon always rocks – and it was really fun to catch up and reminisce.

I was up early on Sunday for a run date! The weather could not have been more amazing.
