This Is Why Being Ghosted Hurts So Much

Source: http://greatist.com/live/ghosting-why-it-hurts-so-much?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed_http–greatistcom-

Boo! No, not that kind of ghost. We’re talking about the verb form, when someone you’ve been dating stops returning your texts and calls. It’s most common in the first few months of a relationship, but that doesn’t make it feel any less shitty. As this video from Bustle explains, we let down our guards when we’re in relationships (it’s a central part of attachment theory), so when someone completely falls off the map, it can leave us filled with an inner monologue of self-doubt. It doesn’t help that as humans, we’re wired to seek out explanations for everything.

Easy Weeknight Chicken Dinner

Source: http://www.sonima.com/food/easy-weeknight-chicken/

Though I’m mostly vegetarian, some days my body just has a hankering for meat. Other times, I want nothing to do with foods that come from another animal. I like to think that my body knows best and I try to follow its intuitive desires. When I do have a carnivorous craving, it’s usually chicken. I know I can get a satisfying and healthy meal from the poultry section at my local grocery store, where I can get clean chicken (both in quality and animal welfare which are really important to me) pretty easily. Don’t be afraid to ask your local butcher how the chicken was raised and if it’s organic and hormone-free.

I like to purchase a whole chicken and then ask the butcher to break it down for me into 10 pieces. This not only saves money, but also makes cooking an entire chicken a lot faster. I keep the backbone in the freezer until I am ready to make chicken stock.

One of the things I love about this recipe is that it calls for marinating the chicken in the most delicious mixture of garlic, ginger, honey, and tamari (or soy sauce) for about an hour before cooking. Despite the hour prep, the recipe itself is really quick—only 30 minutes of real cooking time with minimal need for hands-on work, making it perfect for a weeknight homemade meal. You could even whip up the marinade ahead of time (maybe that morning) to cut back on prep time that night, making the toss-…

Has Mars joined the food movement?

Source: http://www.foodpolitics.com/2016/04/has-mars-joined-the-food-movement/

Mars, the very same company that has been trying for years to position chocolate as a health food, appears to be joining the food movement, and big time.

Take a look at its GMO disclosure statement on the back of this package of M&Ms.

If it’s too small to read, the statement is in between MARS and the green Facts Up Front labels)

And this is before Vermont’s GMO labeling rules come into effect in July.

Mars also has come out in support of the FDA’s proposals on voluntary sodium reduction.  The company explains that through its “new global Health and Wellbeing Ambition,

Mars Food will help consumers differentiate and choose between “everyday” and “occasional” options. To maintain the authentic nature of the recipe, some Mars Food products are higher in salt, added sugar or fat. As these products are not intended to be eaten daily, Mars Food will provide guidance to consumers on-pack and on its website regarding how often these meal offerings should be consumed within a balanced diet. The Mars Food website will be updated within the next few months with a list of “occasional” products – those to b…

Seaside, Florida Adventures

Source: http://www.fannetasticfood.com/2016/04/17/seaside-florida-adventures/

Hey friends! Matt and I are on our way back to DC after a fun few days in Seaside, Florida for his brother’s wedding! I’ll be back tomorrow to share a recap of the rehearsal dinner and wedding day fun, but for now wanted to pop in with some of the non-wedding food and fitness highlights from the week. :)

Sadly we had pretty crummy weather the whole time we were in Seaside (it cleared up for the wedding day, though – whew!), so our scuba diving plans were foiled and we weren’t able to hit the beach. Boo! It was a really cute town though (they actually filmed the movie “The Truman Show” in Seaside) and now I really want to go back when the weather is nicer to see more of it! Check this out: the world’s cutest post office. :) Apparently it’s the most photographed building in town!

5 Simple Yoga Postures to Maximize Happiness

Source: http://www.sonima.com/yoga/maximize-happiness/

According to the yogis, happiness is not about “getting” from any external source and bringing in; rather it’s a practice of cultivating our internal propensity for happiness, growing that which we already possess. And for yogis, the body is an ideal tool to encourage our innate joy to blossom into every area of life.

This simple daily practice offers a way to tend to what I call “the happiness garden.” It will open the chest while strengthening and stabilizing the shoulders. That basic shape shift of “heart opening” interrupts the habitual hunch (over the phone, computer, car, meal, etc.) and will immediately uplift the spirits. Broadening and lengthening the ribcage gives the lungs greater space to expand. We can breathe bigger, fuller breaths, feeding the brain with oxygen, soothing the central nervous system, and releasing happiness hormones to free up some space in our heads and hearts.

Good morning from my second home, an airplane! 😉 I’m on my way back to DC from Florida after a quick press trip. I miss the palm trees already!

Random sidenote: at the airport this morning I rocked this sweet standing desk I set up for myself using my suitcase. 😉 I know, I’m totally a genius. Why hadn’t I thought to do this before?! Nice to stand a little before sitting cramped on the plane!

Annals of “healthy” eating: Olive Garden

Source: http://www.foodpolitics.com/2016/04/annals-of-healthy-eating-olive-garden/

My friend and colleague Maya Joseph submits this entry for the category Annals of American “Healthy” Dining:

I was at an Olive Garden last night and, while I greatly appreciated the calorie labeling, which prevented me from ordering the 1,480 calorie entree I was hankering after, I was unsettled by the promotional materials urging us to order two entrees for the price of one (you’re supposed to take one home…).

She includes this link to the two-for-one offer (Oops.  It’s no longer available.  Whew).

Comment: OK, they offered customers a choice.

But unlimited breadsticks and two Fettucine Alfredos?

The mind boggles.

How to Feel Close and Connected in Your Relationship Again

Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/tinybuddha/~3/jgwDryjf_18/

Close couple

“Intimacy is not purely physical, It’s the act of connecting with someone so deeply, you feel like you see into their soul.” ~Unknown

When we’re feeling disconnected and unfulfilled in our relationships, we often believe that we need something more from the other person.

We think that in order for us to be happy, the other person needs to be or do something different. While it may be true that sometimes there are some changes we need to make, oftentimes being happy and getting what we desire has more to do with our own awareness.

The problem is that we don’t understand what intimacy really is, and how to experience it more in our relationships. We think that we have to spend a lot more time together and have long deep conversations to bring out the level of intimacy we truly desire.

We think back to the connection we felt in the beginning and wish it could feel like that again.

Why Things Are Different in the Beginning

In the beginning of my relationship I felt really close to my partner and we loved learning new things about each other.

We spent a lot of time together, walking hand in hand and fully enjoying each other’s company. I felt a deep connection just by looking in his eyes and not saying anything. Everything felt good, easy.

Now Is the Time to Do the Things That Make You Happy

“The trouble is you think you have time.” ~Buddha

When I first read this quote after graduating from college, I fell headfirst into a tailspin of “do it now, do it now, do it now.”

I had to travel the world, while doing yoga, and learning Spanish, and hiking the PCT, and living in different cities, and building my resume, and reading every book ever written.

With every check I put next to an item on my bucket list, I found ten new things that pulled me different directions. I tried to do it all and ironically, felt like I got nowhere. I was so frantically searching for my place and planning my next step that I often neglected where I was.

I was trying to protect myself from feeling regret for not having experienced life to its fullest, but I was so busy doing this that I missed a lot on the way.

The reality is that in the present moment there is nothing to protect myself from; it is the safest place to be.

I began to look at the quote from a different perspective.

There are things that I can put on my to do list—take voice lessons, read that book, bake that cake, run more, practice more. There will always be more to do. However, there are also things I can do to live the life I want to live right now: love, let go, be a good frie…
